Devil's Lake 3K

I had a great time swimming the 3K at Devil's Lake yesterday. After watching the final day of the NCAA track meet in Eugene (Track Town, USA), and enjoying the 80 degree weather on Saturday, I had high hopes for a beautiful day. But of course it is still June and the weather is always a big question mark, particularly along the coast. The air temperature turned out to be 52° F at race time. The water was a lovely 62 ° F making it an Oregon Masters wetsuit legal race. However, I had promised the Cold Water Group that I would put my cherished Xterra Vendetta aside for the race, so I joined them and lined up at the start line "naked".

While it was a short race, it was good preparation for my next race in a month when I will be swimming from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge, a distance of 10K. The water temperature for that race will be 56 - 58 degrees, meaning that I'll have to swim a bit faster to get out quicker.
